Enhanced System Planning Launch Event

C4NET was thrilled to host the launch of our collaborative research project on Enhanced System Planning (ESP).

The ESP brings together 5 of Victoria’s leading research universities, all 5 Victorian distribution networks, AEMO, the state government and industry experts to produce an aligned, collaborative approach to identify and address information gaps in the electricity sector and leverage Victoria’s smart meter data to inform the energy transition at low voltage levels.

Meeting 2050 climate targets will involve a momentous, industry defining shift to new fuel sources and the widescale adoption of both utility scale and distributed renewable energy solutions. The wheels are already in motion; individuals, communities, businesses, and network players are increasingly adopting rooftop solar, small-scale storage solutions and electric vehicles, and are looking to emergent technologies. To meet this demand, we need to proactively build adaptive models and forecasting tools to integrate renewable energy into our electricity planning at the distribution level.

The ESP is designed to develop consensus on robust network planning and operational forecasting models and frameworks. It will also provide insights for infrastructure planners, policy makers and other stakeholders while supporting the state’s long term climate goals.

With a view to the future, the ESP was fittingly hosted at the Investment Centre with 360 views of the city. We were joined by the research leads, DNSP’s, program partners and the Minister for Climate Action, Minister for Energy and Resources, Minister for the State Electricity Commission, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio. It was a wonderful celebration of the efforts of those who have supported this program from inception and an excellent “energetic” starting point to launch from.
