Demand Response | Work Package 3 – Findings and Recommendations

Demand response (DR) programs can benefit electricity consumers, distribution network service providers (DNSPs), system operators, and the energy market. However, the complexity and characteristics associated with loads connected to commercial and industrial (C&I) customer premises, utilisation of backup generators for DR, and the baseline calculation process still require considerable research to optimise and further unlock the capabilities of DR programs.

This webinar presented the outcomes and recommendations proposed by the team that recently completed the collaborative project “Optimisation of behind-the-meter DER generation assets within network constraints: A roadmap to successful DR program”. The presenters specifically covered the use of batteries in DR programs to benefit C&I customers and outline the key recommendations proposed by the study to increase the uptake of batteries.

Speakers and topics:

  • Overview of the Project – Lasantha Meegahapola (Associate Professor, RMIT University)
  • Demand Response and the Role of Batteries – Kedem Levy (AGL)
  • Battery Feasibility Assessment for C&I Customers – Imran Azim (Research Fellow, Monash University)
  • Outcomes and Recommendations – Reza Razzaghi (Senior Lecturer, Monash University)
