Mapping of Low-Voltage Networks

Project Partners: Monash University, Melbourne University, Powercor and AusNet Services

As the electricity industry transitions from centralised generation with one way-flow to generation with a multi-directional flow throughout low voltage distribution networks, owners of these networks  require more detailed understanding of their assets’ capabilities and capacity.  In order to maximise the hosting capacity of these networks, ensure minimal expenditure for any upgrades and maintain a safe and reliable supply, distribution companies increasingly require better visibility and understanding of how their networks operate under new and changing conditions.

This project will address some of the visibility challenges that currently exist in power distribution networks by evaluating data from smart meters.  This analysis will enable increased integration of distributed energy resources across low voltage networks.
